Pacers start quick, rout Heat 95-70

The Indiana Pacers have some fight left in them after all. The Pacers, hanging on in the Eastern Conference playoff race, used their best defensive effort of the season to beat the Miami Heat 95-70 on Friday night. The Pacers claimed their largest victory margin of the season and shot 51.5 percent from the field to win for the second time in four games after an 11-game losing streak.

Raptors rip cold-shooting Nuggets 121-94

George Karl called the Toronto Raptors the most talented team in the Eastern Conference after his Denver Nuggets missed their first 15 shots and lost by 27. Morris Peterson had 23 points, Jorge Garbajosa had a career-high 22 and the Raptors never trailed in a 121-94 victory over Denver on Friday night.

Monarchs reacquire Newton from Sky

The Sacramento Monarchs reacquired guard Chelsea Newton on Friday, trading their first-round draft pick to Chicago for a key part of their 2005 WNBA championship team. The Monarchs, who won their second straight Western Conference title last season, also received a second-round pick for Newton, who started every game of the 2005 season as a rookie defensive stopper with Sacramento.

"I've been working on some new stuff that will hopefully fool him," Minnesota freshman forward Ryan Flynn said.
