John Backus, Father of Fortran, Dies

NewsFactor - Fortran, the first mainstream programming language to change how people talk to computers, has lost its father. John Backus, who led the development team at IBM, was 82 and died at his home in Ashland, Oregon, on Saturday. The family said there was no known cause other than old age.
