Lynx trade forward Williams from Monarchs for second-rounder

The Minnesota Lynx traded forward Adrian Williams to the Sacramento Monarchs on Wednesday for a second-round draft pick this spring. Williams spent one season with the Lynx. In 2006, the six-year WNBA veteran averaged 4.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists after signing with the team as a free agent.

Fever re-sign G Tully Bevilaqua

The Indiana Fever signed point guard Tully Bevilaqua to a multiyear contract on Wednesday. The nine-year WNBA veteran played with Indiana the past two years and was second in the league in steals last season behind teammate Tamika Catchings. "I am very happy to have Tully back in a Fever uniform," general manager Kelly Krauskopf said.

Comets name Thompson new head coach to replace Chancellor

The Houston Comets hired Karleen Thompson as their new head coach and general manager on Tuesday. Thompson, who spent part of one season as interim co-coach of the Los Angeles Sparks, was an assistant with the Comets the last two seasons under former coach Van Chancellor, who resigned last month. "Karleen gives the Comets the best chance to be successful," new team owner Hilton Koch told KRIV-TV.

Houston Comets sold to furniture dealer Hilton Koch

Furniture dealer Hilton Koch bought the Houston Comets, making the four-time WNBA champions the league's fifth independently owned franchise. The WNBA Board of Governors approved the sale Wednesday. The Comets were previously owned by Leslie Alexander, who also owns the NBA's Houston Rockets. Alexander sold the WNBA franchise so he could focus solely on the Rockets, said Rockets CEO Tad Brown.

Sun lose backup point guard to torn ACL

Connecticut Sun point guard Erin Phillips will likely miss the upcoming WNBA season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Phillips, 21, was injured Saturday while playing for Adelaide in Australia's Women's National Basketball League. She was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday in Australia, and is expected to be sidelined for at least eight months.
