Portland St.'s Glanville assembles staff

On the job for nearly a month, new Portland State football coach Jerry Glanville has been busy assembling his staff. Kevin Strasser was named wide receivers coach on Friday and is the latest hire by Glanville, joining offensive coordinator Mouse Davis, offensive line coach Brian Smith, running backs coach Franke Geske, defensive line coach Josh Fetter, and wide receivers coach Jim Craft.

Saban: Alabama off to `good start'

Alabama's football team had its first spring practice Saturday, running drills in a two-hour workout that head coach Nick Saban called a "good start." Footballs and numerous other things flew about the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility where the Tide had the first of 15 offseason practices which will culminate with the annual A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on April 21.

Alabama opens first practice with Saban

Already annointed as the best thing since Bear Bryant by many Crimson Tide football fans, it's finally time for Nick Saban to do some coaching at Alabama. Alabama opens its first spring practice under Saban on Saturday with expectations running extraordinarily high, even for Tide fans who expect a championship drive every few years.

Penn State's Paterno back at practice

Tide WR Prothro facing third leg surgery

Alabama wide receiver Tyrone Prothro is facing a third surgery to repair the leg he broke during the Florida game in 2005. Coach Nick Saban disclosed the upcoming operation during a news conference Thursday. "I'm not a doctor and this is a pretty significant injury and a pretty complicated issue medically," Saban said.

Auburn looking ahead to opening game

Finishing spring practice on an offensive high note, Auburn is looking ahead to the fall. The Tigers will be off the rest of this week, and then the players get a vacation for spring break. After that it's back to the weight room for offseason workouts. After all, the opening game is Sept. 1 against Kansas State.

Keller cited for disturbing the peace

Campus police cited Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller Thursday for disturbing the peace after he allegedly yelled profanities at a woman who took a parking spot he was waiting for in a campus parking garage. Arkansas' Nutt to finally get $1M bonus

It took nearly three years to finalize a $1 million deferred bonus for Razorback football coach Houston Nutt that University of Arkansas officials say he earned by turning down an offer from Nebraska in January 2004, according to university documents. Tebow-led Gators start spring practice

Just hours after winning the national championship, Gators coach Urban Meyer declared that this was now Tim Tebow's team. But Tebow, who will be a sophomore in the fall, isn't taking anything for granted. Weis keeping high expectations for Irish

Some Notre Dame fans are lowering expectations because the Fighting Irish lost Brady Quinn, Jeff Samardzija, Darius Walker and five other offensive starters. Coach Charlie Weis isn't.
