BusinessWeek Online - Is the glass half empty or half full? Mobile phone giant Nokia reported third-quarter results Oct. 19 that contained both impressive growth and worrisome signs of weakness. Revenues rose 20%, to $12.7 billion, and handset shipments hit a record high of 88.5 million units in the quarter, up 33% from a year earlier. Nokia's market share also ticked up to just below 35%, according to market researcher IDC. |

BusinessWeek Online - LG's Chocolate mobile phone was preceded by its reputation when it became available in the U.S. in July, exclusively from Verizon Wireless. The music-playing handset was a hit in Asia (see BusinessWeek.com, 7/19/06, "LG Chocolate: Will This Cell Phone Hit The Sweet Spot?") But on this side of the Pacific, it left a bad taste in some reviewers' mouths. For instance, Chocolate "doesn't quite live up to the hype," quips ZDNet. |
